Case Study: It is essential for organizations to set up structures in response to requests and accelerating proactive disclosure of public health information in order to build trust with communities. Organizations can align their goals with communities in order to promote public health outcomes by leveraging media to strategically communicate with the general population, as well as advocate for policy change when necessary or appropriate. Media advocacy has been recognized as one of three major strategies for achieving health promotion goals; the other strategies are enablement and mediation. The World Health Organization has described advocacy for health as a combination of individual and social actions designed to gain political commitment, policy support, social acceptance, and systems support for a particular health goal. Organizations may engage with local coalitions made up of concerned residents, local businesses, other community-based organizations, and government agencies to collectively bring about policy, systems, or environmental change strategies. Examples include smoke-free city parks, environmental justice issues, speed bumps on busy neighborhood streets, or bike lanes to encourage cycling.
