Question: Barbara Jordan talked about the concept of governing derived by a view of people and "rooted in a set of beliefs firmly etched in the national conscience of all of us." The first belief she attributed to the Democratic Party was "Equality for all and privileges for none." Her statement assumed her audience easily recognized that privilege did indeed exist, and she implied privilege was bad. Why do you think our national conversation today is not how the political parties might govern to eradicate privilege, but that privilege exists at all?
