Question: As a graduate student, Chelsea became curious about how people made the decision to get a tattoo. Her interest stemmed from her own experiences in getting a number of tattoos and her belief that people got tattoos because they desired attention. She acquired all of the necessary approvals through the Research Ethics Board at her university, and conducted interviews with people who had been tattooed. She learned that one of the main reasons people gave for being tattooed was that they wanted to commemorate an important person or event in their lives. While Chelsea thought this finding was interesting, in her research report she wrote that her main finding was that tattoos were inspired by people's desire for attention, for she knew from her own experience that this was true.
