Maturity refers to how an organization adopts structured, repeatable, and scalable processes that align with its strategic goals and enable continuous improvement (Rezvani, n.d.). Maturity models, such as the five-stage framework, help organizations evaluate their capabilities, identify gaps, and create a roadmap for improvement (Rezvani, n.d.). These models are about achieving operational efficiency and fostering a culture of consistency, accountability, and innovation (Rezvani, n.d.). Moreover, maturity means moving from ad-hoc or informal approaches to standardized, data-driven methodologies that enable long-term planning and agility (Rezvani, n.d.). When I joined the provincial government just over a year ago in a project management role, I was tasked with managing and reporting on my division's major initiatives. However, several challenges quickly became apparent. The division lacked consistency in how projects were tracked and reported, which created significant inefficiencies. Information was scattered across multiple documents and systems, making reporting to leadership time-consuming and prone to errors. Long-term planning was hindered by the absence of a centralized view of projects, and staff expressed frustration over the lack of transparency, as they were unable to clearly understand the division's overall priorities and progress.
