Assignment:

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) are currently considering bids by nations to host the 2036 Olympic Games. As part of the selection process, they have assembled a panel of experts- to be known as the Scholarly Analysis of International Nominees and Tenders (SAINTs) team- to evaluate the strength of the different countries' bids, and provide a recommendation for the location of the 2036 Olympic Games. As the appointed leader of the SAINTs team, you are tasked with making a recommendation for the host of the 2036 Olympic Games.

The IOC have narrowed the field of potential host countries down to the following contenders:

  • Indonesia
  • Turkey

The IOC have requested that you base your recommendation to host the 2036 Olympic Games by comparing the two potential host countries on the following key issues:

  • How open is each potential host country from a cultural perspective, to hosting a major global event like the Olympic Games? As part of your answer, consider how each country's culture has changed in recent decades, using relevant theories covered in this unit.
  • How well or poorly does each potential host country perform with respect to sustainability? As part of your answer, select a key ideology of globalisation that is covered in this unit, and explain how that ideology has contributed to each country's sustainability performance.
  • How does each potential host country rate in terms of their respective levels of inequality? As part of your answer, explain how key global processes (beyond globalization, and covered in this unit) have contributed to each country's level of inequality.

You must use a different theory/model/framework/ideology to answer each question.
