For this assignment, you'll choose a religious tradition not covered in this chapter and tell me about it. Some examples include: Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Taoism, but there are many others.

Instructions

Choose a world religion. It can be one of the ones I mentioned, or a different one. It can be something you grew up with, or something that's totally new. For the religious tradition you choose, write up a 250 to 500 word reflection specifically on the music of that tradition.

Explain (generally) how music functions as part of this religious tradition. Consider the following questions:

is the music performed by regular followers or is it specialized and performed by religious leaders?
are there instruments used, and if so, what are they?
is dancing part of the musical tradition? If so, what function does it serve?
Please find a YouTube (or Vimeo or whatever) video of a representative musical work from this religious tradition and provide that link in your reflection.
