The case of Copenhaver v. Berryman - Berryman owned an apartment complex. He signed a 5-year contract with Copenhaver to have Copenhaver install laundry equipment for the tenants in the complex to use - Copenhaver owned the equipment and would service and maintain the machines and collect the money from them. After one year, Berryman terminated the contract and removed all of Copenhaver's equipment, telling Copenhaver to pick it up. That occurred on March 10. By September 10, Copenhaver had put the equipment into use in other locations. However, he filed a lawsuit against Berryman, demanding payment for the remaining 4 years of the contract. At the trial, Copenhaver asked the court to award him $13,886.58, which was the estimated net profit he would have earned running the facility for the length of the contract. QUESTIONS: Why would a trial court not award Copenhaver the full amount he is asking for? How much would the trial court award? Please explain your answers fully.
