A municipal water plant has four filters that are each 20 ft long by 15 ft wide by 5 ft deep. The demand for water requires that they only operate, on average, three filters per day at a loading of 3 gallons per min / ft^2. They backwash one filter per day at 15 gpm/ft^2 for 15 min and rewash at 3 gpm/ft^2 for 5 min. How much water do they produce for the municipality per day? What percent of the produced water do they waste?
