Case Study: This role play is based on a Harvard mediation scenario which was designed to be conducted in person. It has been designed as either a 4 or 6 party mediation - one with Amar and Alexandra attending and one without them attending. Given that we have 26 students in this class and assuming that everyone participates, my proposal is for us to have 4 mediations - 2 mediations with 4 parties, 2 mediations with 6 parties and 6 mediators (2 sets of co-mediators and 2 individual mediators. I am open to suggestions as to any changes to this format. Also, I will allow students to indicate their first preference for the roles to be played and I will be providing a google doc link with a sign-up sheet. Confidential information will be set to the parties once roles are assigned. Questions:

1. How much time should be spent on this mediation, including preparation time, actual mediation, reflection and discussion? Harvard suggests a total of up to 3.5 hours but this includes readings in the preparation time that you are already familiar with.

2. Should there be more than one live session and/or how should the mediators schedule their discussions with parties?

3. Should there be email, text, or separate virtual sessions (private caucuses) scheduled by the mediators during a specified period of time?

4. How much discretion should the mediators who are selected for this process have in varying the process as they and the parties see fit?

5. Anything else we should consider?
