Question: How much power do our words have? This is the question that I asked myself while reading a magazine. It was a story about how Steph Curry joked to a news reporter about an interview he had with former US president Barrack Obama. Steph Curry claimed that Barrack Obama told him that aliens were real and that he would not believe what they looked like. In addition, Steph mentioned that the moon landing was faked. The night after the interview aired, Steph supposedly received a long and stern email from Barrack Obama scolding him about how what he said matters and can change outcomes.
Throughout history, words have always had a tremendous amount of power. They can start wars, heal the sick, and even bring people back from the dead. The Bible says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). This just goes to show how important words are. In my paper, I want to explore the power of words and how they can affect people, both positively and negatively.
One example of the power of words is the story of Joseph in the Bible. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers and ended up in Egypt. He was falsely accused of something he didn't do, and was thrown into prison. While in prison, he met two men who had been imprisoned for crimes they had committed. Joseph interpreted their dreams and correctly predicted their future. When the time came for their predictions to come true, Joseph was remembered by the men and was brought before Pharaoh. Joseph interpreted Pharaoh's dream and predicted seven years of famine. Because of Joseph's interpretation, Pharaoh was able to prepare for the famine and save the lives of many people. Joseph's words had a positive effect on the people around him and changed their lives for the better.
On the other hand, words can also have a negative effect on people. An example of this is when Jesus was betrayed by Judas. Judas was one of Jesus's disciples, but he betrayed him for 30 pieces of silver. Judas's words led to Jesus' arrest and eventual crucifixion. Judas's words had a negative effect on Jesus and changed his life forever. Words have a lot of power, both positive and negative. They can make or break a person. It is important to be careful with our words and to use them wisely.
Furthermore, words can be used to hurt people. They can be used to tear someone down and make them feel worthless. For example, in the movie "Mean Girls," there is a scene where the main character, Cady, is talking to her friends about another girl in their school. Cady says some very hurtful things about the girl, and as a result, the girl becomes very upset. Words can also be used to spread lies and false information. In the book "The Hunger Games," the character Katniss is constantly being lied to by the government. They tell her that her family is dead when in reality, they are alive and well. These are just some of the ways that words can be used to hurt people.
