Question: Music in Other Media Formats

Goal: Music pervades all aspects of our lives. I want you to get a general idea of how much music enters into our every day lies through other media formats.

Procedure: While watching the following, 30 minutes of a live broadcast network (ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX) news show, 30 minutes of a major Network (not cable) prime time television show, and 30 minutes of a nationally televised sporting event aired on one of the major networks or cable Super Station, make note of EVERY use of music during the broadcast, whether it be part of the specific programming, a commercial during the broadcast, a channel/venue identification, "lead in/out" music for the broadcast, i.e., ALL uses, and identify the uses in detail. I am not looking for a list of music credits.

Rather I'm looking for specifics here about music and how it is used in these other media. As you observe, give some thought to the fact that on most of these events, a royalty is paid out for every use of music on the broadcast.

Example: New York Rangers vs. Boston Bruins 2nd half
