Questions: talk about also social cognition. This is just an example please don't use anything from this
herry Ortner's article "East Brain, West Brain" makes a good point in regards to cultural research. Rather than questioning based off stereotypical preassumptions, a good researcher would insert themselves directly into the culture to make adequate findings. This brings me back to the discussion we had in class surrounding biases with Western research, and if there could possibly ever be a moral, unbiased study conducted by the West in relations to Eastern culture. It could be especially difficult to execute cultural research as a Westerner due to what Ortner describes as Western "tunnel vision" thinking, as opposed to the holistic thinking of the East.
"Gender Schema Theory Explained" further analyzes culture on the scale of the gender binary. As in, what are the roles of gender respective to the cultural environment? Simply put, what an individual is fed about the expectations involving their gender is what they absorb to be society's "gender role" and must feel inclined to oblige by it through influence. Of course, this is somewhat of an outdated theory as gender roles and the concept of gender itself has evolved exponentially. But, this could also speak to how true the theory is as the status quo changes, unless the status quo remains the status quo regardless of how much it is objected by a large population. In my opinion, concepts such as these are not so black and white. We consume so much media on a daily basis that it is hard to tell if one's identity is built around influences or pure individualistic intuition. There is a schema, but I would say that is has expanded far beyond simple comprehension.
