For this thread, I've devised a small quasi-experiment for all of you. Virtually everyone in class admits to having a caffeine habit, so, I'd like you guys to attempt going a full 72 hours without caffeine.

You do not have to take part in this, however, it will be more fun if you do; if you don't drink caffeine, I encourage you to try consuming the average daily amount over the 72 hours to see the effects it has (barring any potential medical problems you have which caffeine may exacerbate).

Write about your experiences---did you make it the full 72 hours or did you give up?

What did you feel like physically? Mentally? How much did it impact your life to not have caffeine?

For those of you who chose not to do it, why did you choose not too? Also, let me know how much caffeine you normally consume in a 72 hour period for contrast.

Finally, whether you took part in the experiment or not, I want all of you to take what you have learned about caffeine and decide whether you feel that caffeine addiction is as real a phenomenon as other drug addictions, and why or why not. Should caffeine addiction be listed in the DSM along with other drug addictions?
