When asked about her presenting problem, Jane discloses she is considering withdrawing from the university after failing a second exam in an advanced Chemistry course. Jane states, "I just know I'll never get it. I'm not smart enough, and I'm just wasting my time. I'm going to study and study and still fail, so what's the point? I'm just not cut out for this." Probing further, the practitioner confirms that Jane has struggled academically but never failed a course.
