Question: Think of an international political leader who is represented negatively in the news (for example, Castro in Cuba). Gather enough information about that person to be able to explain how he or she might defend himself or herself against the charges made in characterizing that person as "evil." Then ask yourself if you have ever seriously considered the possibility that any of the "enemies" of the United States might be more justified in opposing us than we are in opposing them. If you have never heard the defense of a national "enemy" from that person's point of view, how might that affect your ability to empathize with that person?
