Sophie is a kindergarten child who came to school identified as a child with developmental delay. She is the only child of a young, single mother with limited financial resources. Sophie is shy and quiet and tends to keep to herself. She enjoys simple games and hand activities where she can be successful. As Sophie is asked to use her vision in the classroom, she has been noted to laterally flex her neck to the right, rub her eyes, squint, and complain of headaches. When given a quick screening of visual motor skills, Sophie is noted to have difficulty with visual tracking, saccades, and accommodation because her right eye appears to react more slowly.
