A critical aspect of the director's role is to develop successful strategies to support, encourage and nurture the critical role families play in early childhood education/after school programs while offering a program model that balances the needs of children, families, and staff. How does the director emphasize the participation and involvement of families in the life of the center and offer a program model that balances the needs of children, families, and staff?
In what ways is the director needed to assist staff members to establish respectful and effective relationships with families as the current field of early education has moved to a model of 'family support' where strengths are acknowledged and build upon vs 'us' against 'them'. This shift clearly requires teachers to 'promote family decision-making capabilities and competence'. Families must be treated with respect and the highest regard as they are the child's 'first teachers'. How might a director implement a no-gossip policy in regards to staff who are judgmental and critical of families and/or staff?
