Carleton Burgers is a small family run restaurant in Ottawa, Ontario. It has 45 employees and an annual payroll of $1 million. None of the employee are unionized. Joshua is a Server at Carleton Burgers. He has been working at Carleton Burgers for three years, most often the dinner shift.
Recently, Hani started to work as a Hostess at Carleton Burgers on the dinner shift. Joshua spoke with her often during their shifts and the two developed a romantic interest in each other. They started dating, but things quickly went downhill. Joshua became jealous of Hani's male friends and Hani broke up with him. Joshua had difficulty accepting that the relationship was over. He continued making overtures toward her, which Hani rejected. He called Hani constantly trying to pressure her into rekindling their relationship. He also began to send her many text messages each day, often starting as soon as he finished his dinner shifts. The text messages were rude and demeaning. As Joshua continues and harasses Hani at work, she often leaves work crying after having received one of Joshua's texts and she worried about receiving discipline for leaving her shifts early. Finally, Hani had enough. She told Priya, the Human Resources Manager for Carleton Burgers what was going on.
Priya is not sure what to do. She comes to you, a human resources management consulting team, for direction. Priya needs you to brief her on options for termination, any associated financial costs, and human resources management solutions to prevent this situation from occurring in the future.
