Question - You are considering starting a tree marking business. The current price for tree marking is $40 per tree. You believe you can mark 5 trees per day and you can operate the business for 250 days per year.  You have done a budget and the cost to go to the forest to mark the trees is $150 per day (including gas, flagging tape, etc).  You would need to pay $8,000 per year to rent a truck, $4,000 per year for office space and another $5,000 per year for GIS software and licences.

What is your gross profit per tree?

You can hire an assistant to help with the tree marking. This will increase your productivity to 11 trees per day. However, the assistant will cost $200 per day plus you will need an additional GIS license that costs $3,000 per year. Should you hire an assistant to help you with the business?
