Infrared (IR) spectroscopy is a highly useful tool for probing gas samples. A certain IR analyzer is used to probe a carbon monoxide gas sample, which contains no chemical impurities. Predictably, a stretch band at 2045 cm-1 was registered.

Your colleague suggested that more stretch bands at various frequency (wavenumber) values and of possibly lower intensity could be detected for this sample.
