I want you to research the local juvenile justice authority for Houston Harris County Texas. That would be the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department and tell me AS MUCH as you can about the department. What functions does it carry out? What are the various divisions? Is there anything about the department that you were not expecting? And to really impress me, and earn some points, include some data about the department. How many referrals do we get in a year? How many young people are in the detention center the day you looked it up? What is racial make-up of those in detention? Yes, it is all there. When looking for information like this, look at annual reports, monthly reports, and so forth. Look at dashboards, if available. Give yourself enough time to explore the website. I bet some of you all may be wishing for a textbook about now! Trust me, it is not difficult to find this. BUT, give yourself time to do this, and for all discussion. What gets most people in trouble is rushing through discussion .
