Question: Molybdenum (in the form of molybdate anion, MoO42--­­­) is present in the ocean at a concentration of 10-13 moles per liter, but the Km of the nitrogenase FeCoMo enzyme is high enough that it doesn't saturate until an intracellular concentration of 10-4 moles per liter is achieved. Given the Dp calculated above, how many protons would have to be transferred per Mo atom to saturate the enzyme?
