Assignment
Have you ever been curious about how long it takes for an animal to be adopted?
To investigate questions like this, we contacted the NWACC Animal Shelter and they provided us with information about 473 cats and dogs. Included in the dataset are information about how the animals arrived at the shelter, their sex, breed, age, weight, and the number of days spent in the shelter. The data is contained inAnimalData. Each variable was described in the codebook file; however, that file was deleted and cannot be recovered.
Primary Research Question
How many days do animals spend in the shelter before they are adopted?
Initial Questions
1. How many variables are in this dataset?
2. How many of the first 20 animals in the dataset were adopted?
3. How many of the animal in the dataset were neutered?
Let's find the variables we need to answer the primary research question.
4. What variable tells us the length of time an animal stayed in the shelter? The variable name in the dataset is:
5. What type of variable is this? Numerical or Categorical
6. What variable tells us if the animal was adopted? The variable name in the dataset is:
7. What type of variable is this? Numerical or Categorical
Analysis
Determine which animals in the dataset were adopted.
8. How many animals in the dataset were adopted?
9. Generate a histogram for the length of time these adopted animals were in the shelter.
10. Select the appropriate measures of center and spread to describe the distribution.
