States can't make laws without lawmakers, right?
Every state has a group of lawmakers called a legislature. In California, the legislature is made up of two parts just like the U.S. Congress.
The two parts are even called by the same names as the U.S. Congress - the House of Representatives and the Senate.

1) How many legislators (members) are there in each part?
2) Go to the "Bill Information" section and look at pending legislation for 2019-2020 (note- if you hit "search" all legislation will come up in alphabetical order).

States are involved in all these areas of life and more.
Go to the California state website.
Look through the website to find 2 services California provides to citizens. List the 2 services you find and explain why you think it is (or isn't) important that California provide those services.
