  1. A student wishes to compare two samples to each other using at-test.  There are 10 subjects in each group.  The sample standard deviation is 4.2 for one group and 5.8 for the other.  The student notices that Excel gives the option of a 2-sample t-test assuming equal or unequal variances. 
    1. What test should be used to see if the variances are equal?

    3. Which t-test should be used? Perform the appropriate test, if necessary. 
  2. A researcher is trying to tell if one of three diets is better than the others.  He places 20 subjects, 5 in each group, onto the diets for two weeks.

      1. z-test, t-test, F-test, ANOVA, or Linear regression?   
    2. Suppose the researcher finds results that are suggestive (close to significance), but not statistically significant.  Suggest two ways that the researcher could redesign the experiment to increase the power, besides increasing the sample size.  Be specific.
