Consider a culture into which two E. coli strains are inoculated. Strain A is normal with g=21 min at 37 degrees C, and 42 mins at 27 degrees C. Strain B has a temperature-sensitive mutation, such that g=55 mins at 37 degrees C, and 39 mins at 27 degrees C.
We inoculate equal amounts of cells (1 ml of each starter culture whose population is 1 x 10^6 cfu/ml) into each of two separate 1 liter volumes of LB broth at time=0. One of the flasks is incubated at 37 degrees C, one at 27 degrees C.Assuming constant exponential growth (i.e. no lag phase, and no exhaustion of nutrients), answer each of these questions:
1) After 6 hours of growth, what is the final concentration of each strain in each flask?
2) What fraction of the total population is Strain A and Strain B in each flask?
3) How long would each flask need to go for one strain to become 90% of the population?

IF 15% of the nucleotides in a DNA molecule contain guanine, what perecntage of the nucleotides contain each of the other three bases? Explain your reasoning.
A bar graph is used instead of a line graph because every type of liver cell was independent of the others. Determine what variable did researchers intentionally vary in experiment, and what are the units for this variable?
A certain membrane protein has palmitic acid covalently bonded to its N-terminal amino acid. The protein consists primarily of charged amino acids, particularly Lys and Arg. Do you think this will be a periperal or integral membrane protein? Why? ..
A very common type of red or green colorblindness in humans is a X-linked recessive trait. A woman who is red or green colorblind marries a man with normal color vision.
Scalloped (sd) wing is an X-linked recessive and ebony (e) body color is an autosomal recessive mutation in Drosophila. What proportion of scalloped, normal body colored males is expected in the F2 starting with a true breeding scalloped female wh..
Certain chemicals block ATP synthesis by allowing protons and other ions to "leak across membranes," disrupting the charge and protein gradients established by electron flow through an electron transport chain.would this observation support the che..
A mating is made between two individuals who are first cousins and individual X is produced from this mating. Individual E is a parent of S and individual F is a parent of D.
Some cells that use the citric acid cycle and the electron transport chain reactions to produce ATP also thrive by using fermentation under anaerobic conditions. Given the lower yield of ATP in fermentation, why can these cells function so effici..
Determine which water cycle processes are represented in this model and by what components?
