A 9 month old female is brought in by her mother for evaluation of a rash on a Friday. They were seen in your clinic on Wednesday for a fever of 103 and slight irritability that had started the day before. The patient did have some ulcers to her posterior pharynx, but all testing at that time was negative, the patient was well appearing, active, and alert without any other symptoms, so you diagnosed viral syndrome. Mom states the fever abruptly broke last night, and this morning the patient woke up with a rash. On physical exam, you notice a blanching maculopapular rash on the neck, trunk, face, and extremities.
