Assignment: Writing
The midterm reflection has two purposes: (i) it gives you the opportunity to think about what you have learned and what else you would like to learn this semester and (ii) it will be used to form small groups (3-4 students) with similar interests so that you can work together on the end of the semester product and presentation (more about that later).
To get started, think about what aspects of gerontology are most interesting to you, both professionally and personally (how could being gerontologically savvy help in my work life and/or my family life?). Reviewing the course modules (the ones we have covered and the titles of the ones coming up) and the table of contents of your text book are good ways to start. You can also think about the old people you know well.
Writing Your Reflection
Based on your pre-work, what are three topics that you would like to learn more about?
Separately, for each topic, explain:
A. What you already know about this topic (1 paragraph for EACH topic = 3 paragraphs)
B. How knowing more about this topic will contribute to your professional interests (1 paragraph for EACH topic = 3 paragraphs)
C. How knowing more about this topic will contribute to your personal interests (1 paragraph for EACH topic = 3 paragraphs)
There are two ways that you can organize your reflection; use the one that makes the most sense to you. Regardless of which organization you choose, you should use subheadings to help the reader. Your reflection should be 3-4 pages (approximately 1,000 to 1500 words). Organizational strategy.
I. Section I: three paragraphs; each paragraph explains a different aging-related/social gerontology concept you are interested in/what you know about it
