Question: How Juries are fooled by statistics. According to Peter Donnelly's presentation, How Juries are fooled by statistics, he points out that not fully understanding statistics can cause you to be at a great disadvantage. For instance, if you had diabetes and were told by a dentist that it would increase your health by 50% to have your necrotic toes removed. If you would be wrong to listen to his advice and percentages because he is not a specialist of endocrinology, he is a dentist. So it is important to see where the statistics come from and who presents them as facts is of the upmost importance. He also outlines those statistics and probabilities are more than just apples and oranges, sometimes you need to take into account many other factors to get it correct. His thoughts on probability still is a little hard for me to understand but I can appreciate the way he explains it. His presentation was definitely interesting and makes you rethink what you think may be considered expect opinions in everyday life.
