Knowledge of current events is requisite for any communication professional. The current event speech is to be designed as an informative presentation that is useful to the class as an audience. Specifically, you will brief fellow students on a current event and how it impacts an industry you want to enter. Students in this assignment are to demonstrate their ability to research, organize and present information in a professional manner. The event itself should fulfill the following criteria:

Current event within the past five years
Current event must be specifically detailed in a print newspaper article
Must be connected to some aspect of communication in a business environment
Should be of interest to this audience and the industry that you want to enter
Should not be a trivial topic of negligible long term value.
First come first serve, approved by the instructor in the discussion post.

The current event briefing has the following written requirements to be turned in to the instructor before the presentation. Students are also allowed to use keyword outlines in their presentations as long as they do not promote excessive reading.

Typed sentence outline (see text and class notes for guidance) submitted before 2/2/21. Accepted formats include doc, docx, and pdf.
Parenthetical citations should detail where specific elements in the outline are derived
Formal bibliography or works cited page, (five source minimum) including:
- Two approved web sources
- one newspapers story detailing the specific event
- one-non newspaper credible source (e.g. professional organization)
- Two articles
- One book (textbooks are not to be used for this assignment)
- This should be a sentence outline similar to the one used in the basic speaking course. Sample Template is provided as a courtesy reminder of formatting below. You can use and adapt to your needs but be sure that your outline is finalized without any of the template content.
