The National Security Strategy (NSS) is a document that gives an outline of the goals of our country with regard to our national security. Select any topic addressed in the NSS and explain how it applies to U.S. involvement in Syria.. Said differently, how is U.S. involvement in Syria relative to our NSS? - The National Security Strategy (NSS) serves as the grand strategy document for the United States. The Goldwater-Nichols Act of 1986 requires each administration to produce an NSS by June 15 of the first year they take office and "regularly" thereafter. The NSS defines U.S. security interests, goals and objectives, and provides guidance to those who are charged with executing that strategy. As members of the Profession of Arms, we are charged to behave ethically in carrying out our national objectives.
