Question 1: Pick one international organization (UN, EU, ICC, etc.). Explain its mission and function. Assess how issues of state sovereignty are dealt with for member countries. Use evidence (cite sources) to support your response from assigned readings or online lessons, and at least one outside scholarly source.
Governments have joined a number of international organizations. They do so for political, economic, humanitarian, and military reasons. Membership in these organizations allows countries to work together for individual benefits and also for a common good.
When two individuals join in a relationship, they give up some of their authority for the best interests of that relationship. When countries join an international organization or institution, they give up some of their sovereignty, the ability to make binding decisions. At any time you can exit a relationship, but it could entail a cost, emotional, financial, security, etc. Countries can also always leave an international organization that they have joined, but it can create a cost as well. As you are completing the Discussion, keep this explanation in mind.
