Learning Activity: Differentiating for Students with Diverse Needs
Directions:
1) Review the student profiles below and choose two students to plan differentiated activities, assessments, and materials for your classroom/content area.
2) State the objective you wish to assess your students on. (Student will be able to....) Use Bloom's verbs to write your objectives.
3) Review the differentiated material from our lesson and resources located on Joule. Begin selecting ways to differentiate for your selected students if they were in your classroom. Be prepared to justify why you have selected what you have selected.
4) Complete the chart with differentiated plans for each student. (Content-Process-Product)
Intent of Differentiation: Maximize each student's growth and individual success by meeting each student where he or she is and design instruction that matches the student's needs.
Content: Do I need to accommodate or modify the content? Is the content appropriate for their current level of functioning? Do they have the skills necessary to be successful at grade level material?
For Example: Some students may be learning single digit multiplication facts while others are learning to multiply two or three digit numbers.
Process: How is the student learning what is being taught? What method of instruction or presentation would be best suited for this student?
For Example: Hands-on interaction or visual representation or step-by-step instruction.
Product: How will the student shows what he or she has learned?
For Example: Writing a paragraph, completing a graphic organizer, presentation, travel blog
Part 1: Fill out the following "Content-Process-Product" plan for two chosen students based off a) their profiles and b) what you have learned about UbD, UDL, Differentiation, and Bloom's Taxonomy.
Part 2: Justify why you chose what you chose based off all material presented in Topic 7 (PPT, linked readings, Chapter 14, and proffered resources), along with any additional research you may have come across for this Learning Activity.
