Assignment:
Suppose you have visited to a childcare centre. Students will highlight the features of the model, including
- the overall philosophy
- the design of the environment
- the curriculum - including methods for learning opportunity planning and assessment
- roles of educators, children and families
- an analysis that compares the model to at least two other models
Observations will include: note taking specific to the curriculum model. Guiding questions to help with your site visit
These guiding questions are designed to assist you in making observation notes about the curriculum model you visit. They include questions about the role of the teacher, the learner, the environment and the subject matter.
Question One. What the features of the curriculum model are as outlined in the text and/or other resources? Create a list and use these as a way to describe what you are seeing in the room and whether it truly reflects the model.
Question Two. How is the room organized? Describe the equipment, the organization of the space, lighting, aesthetics, and accessibility.
Question Three. What learning opportunities did you see? How were they structured? How are they planned and what assessment strategies do the educators use?
Question Four. What is the role of the facilitator when working with groups and when working with individuals?
Question Five. What is the role of the learner in the learning environment? What is the role of families?
