RESPOND TO POST 100 WORDS: Compare and Contrast the blood pressure of the pulmonary circuit vs systemic circuit

The pulmonary circuit and systemic circuit are parts of the cardiovascular system responsible for transporting blood through the body. The pulmonary circuits pumps blood between the heart and the lungs. this is necessary to keep the blood oxygenated and also to keep the blood pressure up; without the pressure from the heart, the blood flowing out of the lungs would not have enough pressure to continue through the body. Because of this, The blood travels through the lungs an then returns to the heart, where it is pumped out through arteries and then through the rest of the body.

The systemic circuit is the means by which blood travels throughout the body, discharges its oxygen load, and then returns to the heart. The systemic circuit contains veins and arteries; the arteries pump oxygenated blod away from the heart and the veins transport the newly de-oxygenated blood back to he heart. The pulmnary circuit is on the right side of the heart, and forms a closed loop between the heart and lungs. The systemic circuit is on the left side of the heart and forms a closed loop from the heart through the arteries and veins.

The pulmonary circulation is a much lower pressure system than the systemic circulation. The systemic circulation has to work against gravity, especially when a person is standing, and the system needs more pressure to do this. The systemic circulation also redirects blood according to the needs of the body using smooth muscle, in order to accomplish this task, the systemetic circulation must be capable of generating significant resistance with smooth muscle. Systemic resistance generated primarily by arterioles is necessary to generate the high pressure required to drive blood through high volume, long distance systemic circulation. The pulmonary circulation, on the other hand, only needs to get blood from the top to the bottom of the lungs which are perfused by constant low pressure; there is very little redirection of blood within the pulmonary circulation, other than from locally hypoxic pockets in lung. pulmonary arterioles have much less smooth muscle than systemic arterioles and thus, pulmonary arterioles generate much less resistance than systemic arterioles.
