The Exodus event is central to Jewish history and theology. These two chapters from Exodus recount the event, first in prose then in poetry. Please read through these chapters carefully (Please read the New American Standard Bible version found in the link, as it most closely follows the original Hebrew.) For your assignment write a one page response to this reading. Besides your own ideas, answer the following:

1. How is the presence of God depicted in this account? Also, in what ways is Yahweh depicted as a mighty warrior in this account?

2. What sort of leader is he and how will the other nations view him after this? What role do women play?

3. What do you think might have been the significance of the Lord "healing" the bitter water? (notice that the link takes you to chapter, but you will have to move to the next page to read).
