 Assignment:

Please help me understand this concept!!!

By regulating genes in the cell nucleus, epidermal growth factor (EGF) stimulates cells to grow and divide. However, during this response, EGF does not cross the plasma membrane. How then is the extracellular EGF signal transduced into changes in gene activity inside the nucleus?

EGF signaling is often altered in breast cancer, leading to uncontrolled cell growth. Gene mutations in cancer cells lead to altered proteins. For different steps of the EGF response pathway, consider how mutation-altered protein activity could lead to defective signaling and uncontrolled cell growth and division. What kind of targeted therapy could be used to inhibit such cancer cells?
