Chapter 5: Morphology: Words and Their Parts.
Chapter 5 is essentially an explanation of how linguists determine what 'part of speech' a word is (noun, verb, conjunction, etc.). Read all of Chapter 5 then write a response to the following:
How is this account of 'parts of speech' different from what you remember studying in elementary, middle, or high school? Review the guidelines for forum writing given below.
Since this is the first forum, let me remind you of my expectations for the forum entries.
o The forum is meant to be a place for informal responses-you need not edit to excessively, concern yourself with form or structure beyond clarifying your ideas, nor censor yourself beyond class standards.
o Each language forum response should be at least 300 words. I consider this the minimum amount to demonstrate significant creative thought about a topic.
