Question: How is it that in a post-civil rights age of racial equality, people of color are disproportionately undereducated, poor, incarcerated, and more likely to be treated violently by police? The contradiction between equality as stated in law and humanitarian and scientific consensus versus the reality of social inequality and injustice cannot be adequately addressed as a psychological or ethical issue, on the level of individuals. **Deeper cultural, political, and economic analyses are required to explain why and how people behave in ways that appear to violate their highest and most general legal and moral principles.
