Question: Delta Airlines pilots voted to take pay cuts to avoid mandatory furloughs through 2022 as the industry is affected by the coronavirus pandemic, the airline's union said on Wednesday. The agreement allows the company to reduce pilots' guaranteed hours by 5 percent. More than 1,700 of the Atlanta-based airline's pilots will be furloughed at the end of the month and will receive part of their 30-hour monthly pay and will not have to fly. The union, which represents Delta's nearly 13,000 pilots, said the plan had the approval of 74 percent of the airline's pilots. As a result of the agreement, and thousands of employees taking buyouts and voluntary leave, Delta has avoided furloughs. Delta is also cutting the hours of its ground staff by 25%.
