Question: Interpersonal communication is a multifaceted and complex part of communication studies. Our communication affects our relationships and those we interact with immensely. As you reflect on your interpersonal competence, focus on how you can use your knowledge of communication studies to positively impact the relationships in your life. Before completing this reflection you should complete the Interpersonal Communication Competence assessment to evaluate your interpersonal communication skills. In chapters 6 & 7 you learned about interpersonal theories and about various types of relationships in your life. Choose one type of relationship (family, friend, romantic, or workplace) you would like to reflect about, preferably one you feel could benefit from reflection, then answer the following questions: Explain one specific theory or concept about interpersonal communication that applies to the relationship. How has that theory about interpersonal communication changed your perspective on the relationship or helped you gain understanding? How can that theory about interpersonal communication help you improve upon the relationship? How is conflict most often handled in the relationship? Can you think of a current (or past) conflict where shifting your conflict style may help with its resolution? How do you think learning about conflict can you gain interpersonal communication competence?
