How is an orthopedic affected by having a gap or issue between readmission rates for outpatient total knee replacements? Explain how the organization is currently affected and what the informatics solution would change or improve.

Medicare now considers total knee replacements an outpatient procedure if they don't have any qualifying criteria. But, if a patient gets readmitted within 30 days for superficial infections or 90 days for deep infections, the cost for that stay gets taken out of the original amount we were given. So, basically, the readmission is free.
