Sociologists increasingly focus on not just U.S. society, but the world as a whole. Provide several reasons for this global focus. How is an awareness of global patterns, such as immigration or social inequality, very much a part of the sociological perspective?
Can you identify a social pattern that people in our society tend to see as an expression of personal ability or personal choice, when it is, in fact, also a result of societal forces? Describe the pattern and then explain how society is at work in the pattern you have identified. (In other words, please describe something that people tend to think of social forces or a personal issue, but is really an indication of a social pattern such as homelessness or completing college--use your own example).

Regardless of which option you choose (either 1 or 2), you'll need to make direct connections to C. Wright Mill's concept of the "Sociological Imagination" (sometimes referred to as the "Sociological Perspective"---not to be confused with the three sociological perspectives). When integrating the Sociological Imagination, I recommend mentioning it, defining it, and explaining how it relates to your response.
