Task 1 - Discussion Paper - Internet of Things (IOT) and Supply Chain Sustainability
This assessment task requires you to write a discussion paper profiling the effects and integration of the Internet of Things (IOT) including:
• A definition of IOT
• Overview of Supply chain integration and performance
• Role of Information and Communication Technologies in Supply Chain Integration
• Internet of Things and Supply Chain Integration - including:
o How IOT enables supplier integration
o How IOT helps in customer integration process
o Additional capabilities of IOT in supply chains
o How IOT-enabled supply chain performance affects firm sustainable performance
Contextualise your paper to an actual organisation and its supply chain (this may be an actual or simulated business). Discuss how the IOT is applied in the organisation, if currently utilised, or how it could if not. In particular, address process improvement and sustainability.
Task 2 - Supply Chain System Review
This assessment task requires you to prepare a report to senior management for an organisation profiling it's approach to supply chain management with a view to improve its existing systems. The reviewed organisation may be an organisation you have access to or a simulated business as determined by your Assessor.
This will require you to:
• develop strategic directions for supply chain management in alignment with organisational goals
• develop policy for supply chain processes
• conduct risk analysis on ICT support of supply chain processes and implement procedures that identify where risk occurs and what measures need to be taken to mitigate the risk
• develop continuous improvement plan for ICT support of supply chain processes.
Begin by analyzing the organisation's supply chain including:
• movement and storage of raw materials
• finished goods from point-of-origin to point-of-consumption
• planning and management of activities involved in:
• sourcing
• procurement
• conversion
• logistics management activities
• work-in-process inventory.
and development of key performance measures, providing descriptions of measures or outcomes that:
• are key to the organisation's success
• are usually long-term considerations
• must be quantifiable (measurable)
• reflect organisational goals.
Required performance levels should be defined within the key performance measures. These can include:
• levels of availability, serviceability, performance, operation, or other attributes of the service, such as billing
• contracted delivery time or performance of the service.
Using the key performance measures as a guide, outline a strategy to align ICT technical resources with the identified supply chain processes. This may be redeployment of existing resources or a recommendation for new technologies and resources.
Define how the performance levels specified in the key performance measures will be monitored.
Develop a strategy for the risk assessment of internal, and external, supply chain processes on the proposed supply chain system that addresses:
• coordinated and economical application of resources to minimise, monitor and control the probability or impact of unfortunate events or to maximise the realisation of opportunities
• establishment of a secure environment for IT assets
• identification, assessment and prioritisation of risks
• risk plans
• information gathering
• threat identification and evaluation
• scenario development
• risk prioritisation
• counter measure identification
• report and follow-up.
For each identified potential risk, provide mitigation strategies that can be applied.
Finally, provide a communication model that may be applied through the organisation to ensure the effectiveness of the proposed system, that may consist of:
• emails, memos, letters, reports and proposals
• good, relevant and timely flow of information between an organisation's employees and with its customers
• verbal, such as formal and informal meetings
• written
• tools:
• Mobile devices Phones
• laptops
• personal productivity tool (PPT).
