ESSAY 2: TRANSNATIONAL CHALLENGES: ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH, and TRAFFICKING

Explain the causes of the transnational challenges discussed in the readings and class: environment, health, and trafficking. Why and how are these global and collective challenges? How has the international community responded and how effective are these efforts or responses? Please pull in examples the readings and class, including the documentary Before the Flood.

ESSAY 3: INTERNATIONAL SECURITY AND INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM

What are national security challenges? Compare and contrast the security threats during and after the Cold War. In this post-Cold War era, how has international terrorism become a major security threat? Explain some of the ways in which the international community has responded to terrorism, and how realists and liberals view the causes and appropriate responses. What do you think is the greatest security threat today?

In all of the essays, where appropriate, you should include globalization, technological advances, and how many of these issues are interrelated.
