Watch the following Ted Talk, "Violence against Women: It's a Men's Issue"
In this talk, Jackson Katz discusses how the problem of violence against women is not an individual issue but rather a systematic social problem. He believes that one of the big questions that we need to consider is the roles that various institutions in our society play in producing abusive men at pandemic rates. After you watch, you should respond to the following questions, making connections to Chapter 10 on gender inequality:
1. Choose one of the following social institutions: the military, sports, pornography, religion, family structure, education, economics, and/or politics, and provide an explanation of how that specific institution may play a role in producing abusive men. This will require evidence of critical thought in your response. This response should be approximately 1 paragraph
2. Based on the institution you selected and your reasoning in question #1, provide two specific recommendations that would work to change the practices that lead to violence against women in our society. Support with scholarly sources, if possible.
To receive full credit, you must respond to two other posts. These responses need to go beyond just agreeing with your peers and actually bring something new to the discussion (i.e., ask questions, clarify concepts, debate, bring in outside material, etc.). Please let me know if you have questions.
