CHAPTER Motivation for Pleasure Travel1

Consider all the questions below. Then use the information learned from the chapters to formulate responses for each one. Put this together as two different summary posts. The first one should center around attractions and should read as a complete thought (using multiple paragraphs). The second should focus on tourist motivation and should also read as a complete thought (multiple paragraphs).

Part 1:

  1. How important are attractions to the travel industry? Which types of attractions do you think are the most important (i.e. historical, natural, theme parks, zoos, casinos, sporting, festivals, music, etc.) and why?
  2. Discuss the reasons why Disneyland and Disney World have been so successful.

Part 2:

  1. Explain in some detail the relationship between motivation and tourism marketing procedures. Look at the figures and read about tourist motivation. then respond to the ideas such as -Why do people travel? What motivates them? Marketing is the idea of trying to appeal to tourist motivation and get people to actual book travel and go to destinations through advertising what appeals to them. This question asks you to consider why they travel and how marketing agencies work with 'motivation'.
  2. What is meant by "destination image?" How is this concept related to a traveler's motivation?
  3. Imagine yourself now occupying a position in tourism (you can choose any type of job for this part). How would you employ your knowledge of tourist motivation in such a position? What works for you to motivate you to go to different places?
