Assignment:
In the next 5-10 years, I believe that human factors psychology can continue to improve the safety of everyday things that people interact with and can prevent deaths from occurring. For example, motor vehicle accidents continue to be among the leading causes of death for all ages, especially young drivers. With human factors psychology, the safety of vehicles can continue to be improved, whether that means additional features such as automatic breaks or something totally different, like self-driving cars. Additionally, I imagine the field will continue growing and more human factors psychologists will be utilized in workplace settings where they are not used at the moment. I hope it can be used more effectively to prevent medical errors during surgery or in other healthcare settings.
Given the broad awareness, you probably have of the syllabus for this class, what are two or three key learning outcomes you hope to achieve in this class? How might you leverage these outcomes a human factor professional in your current or future careers?
Learning outcome 1: understand how human factors psychology is used in healthcare to assist healthcare providers
Learning outcome 2: understand how human factors psychology influences patient behavior in healthcare setting
Learning outcome 3: better understand the involvement of human factors in everyday life
Achieving these learning outcomes will allow me to better understand my future workplace as a PA. I will be able to improve efficiency during the work day and improve patient outcomes with an understanding of how patients interact with everyday objects and the office when they come in to see me or another provider. This will be important for preventative medicine as well as adherence to treatment plans. I will hopefully be able to prevent burnout with better efficiency and reduce medical errors.
