Extracurricular activities include sports, clubs, student government, fraternities and sororities, and social events. These activities have evolved to reflect the changing expectations and desires of a diversifying student body.

The development of debating clubs and literary societies in the 18th and 19th centuries was followed by the expansion of fraternities and sororities, other social organizations, and athletics (in particular, football) throughout the 20th century. For this question, address the following:
