Assignment:

Every social movement around the world began with one person speaking up about an issue. Other people listened and agreed, and a group formed. Some groups grew until they became movements-locally, regionally, nationally, internationally, and even globally. Social change generally requires many people to make it happen, but each person matters. Each voice matters. Each action that promotes social change matters.

For this discussion, you will identify someone who has inspired social change related to the social issue you have chosen to write about for the project. You will share how the person has addressed the social issue and the impact the person's words and actions have had on the social issue. You may choose someone who is a prominent leader, a behind-the-scenes advocate, the first known person to speak up about the issue, or someone else who has inspired social change related to your social issue in the past. (Be sure to choose someone who has participated in the social change instead of only mentioning it. For instance, a religious figure may have addressed the social issue but not actually been a part of the movement behind it.)

Discussing challenges that face our world often means investigating opinions and ideas different from your own. Remember to remain thoughtful and respectful towards your peers and instructor in your initial and response discussion posts.

Create one initial post and follow up with at least two response posts.

For your initial post, address the following:

  • Which individual has inspired social change related to your social issue?
  • How has this individual inspired social change?
